I love early mornings. Let me amend that: I love early mornings after I’ve had a good night’s sleep. My husband will generally sleep until 8:30 or so, so if I’m up at 5:30 or 6:00, that gives me my quiet time, which I usually use to write. I refer to them as my Stolen Hours, and they are very special to me.
My husband is lovely. He’s truly the best man (the best person) I have ever met. That is not an exaggeration. He is a very, very nice person. He fully supports the people he loves. He’s compassionate about my disability. He’s independent. He’s extremely intelligent. He’s funny. I could go on and on, and one might say that I’m biased, because I married him, but I can confidently say that it’s objectively true. He’s awesome.
BUT. But we are together most of everyday. We truly enjoy each other’s company, but the time that we spend together is time that neither of us is spending on our own projects. So my Stolen Hours are when I fully immerse myself in my own work, primarily my writing. I can art when people are around, and I can carry on a conversation when I’m making. When I’m writing, I need to fully focus on what I’m doing. Words are finicky.

Summer is definitely here! We have had outrageous heat and a series of short but intense storms. (We lost power twice today! Long story. We were warned when we first moved in.)
We lost our resident porcupine last month, but we have discovered that we now have a mama and her baby (porcupette) hanging around! How cool is that?

We have a new path to the door, thanks to my husband! The stones all came from the old paths that were out front. It's finished as I write this. The photo was taken about a week ago. No matter what we build here, we use recycled materials. It makes everything all the more lovely!

Or garden really isn't doing much. The resident master gardener has checked out this year. Beginner me is doing what I can. I have a few garlic coming in, but they're being choked out by weeds. Once it cools off again, I'm going to go see if I can salvage them. I water them regularly, when we don't get rain. I have not given up on them. We planted about 20, but only three or four appear to have made it. I'll see after I get rid of those weeds.
I planted rapini—a whole bunch of it —but only two have sprouted. (I'm pretty sure those are rapini, anyway.) I eat a LOT of it, so it would be nice if I could get it going.
I've missed my windows for potatoes and corn, so those aren't happening this season. My sage and lavender are doing well, and I think that my mugwort has come back. Funny story: Mugwort apparently grows wild everywhere here, but what's the one place it doesn't? My sixty acre farm. We don't have it anywhere. A friend gave me a start last year.
I didn't even try to grow weed this year. I don't have the right setup for germinating seeds. It would have been a waste. Hopefully, we'll build a greenhouse soon. It IS something I woke like to try again, for sure

We have a lot of socializing and two trips ahead of us this summer, and I'm looking forward to those! I hope that your all have a fun and safe summer!
