So far, these tulips wilting within hours of purchase is the most exciting thing that has happened here this month. That is a good thing, after the February we had! I’d also like to note that the tulips have since bounced back. They got cold, that’s all.
My husband is healing up very well, physically. The emotional impact will take some time to heal, but he’s a bit better everyday! The stitches came out last week, and he’s focusing on spending time in his studio, though he has resumed most of his normal activities and is able to do more.
We haven’t started our planting or even started our starts yet. The planting is delayed, because it’s remained very cold. We are still having freezing temperatures and below at night. We also haven’t started our starts, because we don’t have a good setup for that. We do have a plant light and a heat mat, but that’s not sufficient for our needs. What we really need is a greenhouse, and we haven’t gotten that done yet. I did want to try to grow cannabis again this year, but again, the starting setup we have is inadequate.
We will plant what’s appropriate in the ground, once the weather is right, and we’ll probably just buy a few starts this year and work on getting our greenhouse planned and designed, if not built this year. There is plenty that we can and do just seed right into the soil, and it works out fine.
I have had a friend offer, as well, to help me with my herb garden. I’ll be taking her up on that, as she’s more or less a master gardener! It’s a win/win, because where she currently lives, she is unable to have a garden of her own. She will grow a few things, but she only has a container garden right now. This will allow her to get her hands in the dirt fix, and I will learn!
Sugaring season is over—at least, it is for us. In the end, I believe we got about a gallon and a half of syrup. That’ll be fine for us to enjoy for a while. We need to seriously expand our operation before we can hope to give any out as gifts, let alone sell it! I imagine we’ll be gathering in our equipment in the next week or so and putting it away for the season. We might have continued longer, if it weren’t for my husband’s injury.
Other than that, I’m working on several posts and future posts for my Substack (Careful! Apparently, I’m generally mediocre!) and have gotten back to my sewing.
Soon, I’ll begin looking for a self-publishing outlet. I’m comparing them now, and I’ll be setting up a Kickstarter campaign, possibly later this year. I will talk more about this in my Studio Updates.
I also have two upcoming interviews that I will be conducting for Kindness Chronicles (still looking for stories and interview subjects!) I also will have another political hot take coming out, but I’m finding it very hard to write.
As for my husband, he’s focusing on his music. As I write this, he’s working with a new synthesizer he has picked up—a birthday gift from the family. It’s a really cool one, and I know that he’s having a blast working with it and getting to know it!
Once the weather warms up, we will both be getting out on the farm and starting all of that work for the spring and summer. Frankly, I can’t wait! I don’t think that my illness will limit me this year as much as it did last year. I’ve learned a lot about my particular situation, and I’m always trying out shortcuts and workarounds. (For me, not for the work that we do!) We’ve had another friend offer us a gigantic maple tree to cut up and haul away. We won’t turn that down!
Another summer spent lying on the couch would be my idea of hell, honestly.
Finally, we have two possible trips that we need to plan. These will just be short trips. One will be a family visit, and the other will be a trip to Salem, because I have never been there! We’re going with friends in May! It’ll be fun!
Happy Spring!
