It’s a rare morning when I wake up early and actually get up. I’m tired, but I just have trouble sleeping once it’s light out. I have an eye mask, but I get too hot. It helps, but only a little. Sometimes I can eke out an additional hour or two, but not today. I make the best of these hours (I call them Stolen Hours,) and I use the time to write (Hi!) or meditate or just clean the house. Today, writing wins!
Spring is here on the farm! It’s mowing time, my friends and I did a little cleanup up in the woods, and I think we will be starting our planting soon. I haven’t gotten used to the fact that planting, for us, starts later up here than it did back down south. Just last week, we still had freezing temperatures at night. It’s looking like garlic and dill will be the first things to go into the ground. I thought that we’d do that a few days ago, but it hasn’t happened yet. Busy week!
I need to turn the compost, so that I can rebuild the soil in my herb bed, and I need to decide what I want to plant there. My lavender is doing just fine. It made it through the Winter, and I expect it to grow this year. I still haven’t planted my sage, so I’m hoping I can do that this year. It’s a very important herb for me, and I’m frustrated. I haven’t started cannabis, because I still don’t have a good setup for starting seeds. Eventually, we will build a greenhouse, but probably not this year. This would all be so much easier if we were younger, but we do what we can.
I picked up paint for my office nook, as shown above! I’m just waiting for a quiet day to coincide with a good health day, and I’ll get started. I was going to wait to put the secretary back, but it was just taking up too much room laid on its side and emptied out. It’s nice to have it stood back up, and as it turns out, it’s not very heavy, and I can slide it out of the way pretty easily. Setting it back up has allowed me to start the process of cleaning up my studio, and I feel so much better! I’ve been getting rid of a lot, too. Cleaning and clearing is the theme of the month here! It feels great!
The weather is normalizing now, and we’ve had a few days warm enough to open up the house. This is what I love the most about Spring: Airing out the house! We’ve been cooped up all Winter, and now the fresh air can swing through and make everything new again. Love it!
I hope that you are all having a great Spring! Hopefully stuff will start to happen now that we can get outside, and I’ll have more interesting things to write about!
I believe it was Jim Croce who said there's not enough time to do all the things you like once you find them.
My Sisters’s girlfriend is German and uses the word Lüften for airing out the house. I also love that fresh air of the promise of spring, nothing like it. 💚
